Bleeding Violet by Dia Reeves

Love can be a dangerous thing....
Hanna simply wants to be loved. With a head plagued by hallucinations, a medicine cabinet full of pills, and a closet stuffed with frilly, violet dresses, Hanna's tired of being the outcast, the weird girl, the freak. So she runs away to Portero, Texas in search of a new home.
But Portero is a stranger town than Hanna expects. As she tries to make a place for herself, she discovers dark secrets that would terrify any normal soul. Good thing for Hanna, she's far from normal. As this crazy girl meets an even crazier town, only two things are certain: Anything can happen and no one is safe.--Goodreads

Uniquely dark and twisted! When I think of this book Beetlejuice and a Fun House at a carnival comes to mind. Weird creatures and strange phenomenons appear through out the story keeping you glued to the pages. This book pulls you in like watching a scene of a horific accident between an eighteen wheeler and a motorcycolist. You just have to look even if you know there is going to be a horribly mangled body lying on the ground.
My emotions were all over the place during this story. For the first hundred pages or so I hated it. Then slowly it started to grow on me and then I couldn't put the book down. At times it was too confusing to be mysterious and I got fustrated. I also felt that I had to work a little to enjoy this book. My imagination is just not as big as Dia Reeves.
Hanna, the main character which is labled a manic depressive, would say something so insightful  and genuine that I would  think she really isn't insane and then she goes off and does something totally crazy like trying to cut her own finger off with a nail clipper. It was exhausting..LOL.
On a good note this was a darkly fascinating, fast paced emotional rollacoster. So if you are looking for an unusual and one of a kind story look no farther because the Bleeding Violet is what you're looking for.

" Love is a trap," Rosaless said. "The unltimate cage."
Hanna- "Mother is the name for God on the lips and hearts of children."

  1. Eww... clipping her finger off with finger nail clippers. Yuck. I was conflicted over this book but now I think it might just be disturbing and don't plan on picking it up. Ugh!
