Review: Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

Hardcover, 421 pages

Published August 23rd 2011 by Razorbill
YA paranormal
The first book in Richelle Mead's brand-new teen fiction series - set in the same world as Vampire Academy.

When alchemist Sydney is ordered into hiding to protect the life of Moroi princess Jill Dragomir, the last place she expects to be sent is a human private school in Palm Springs, California. But at their new school, the drama is only just beginning.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Bloodlines explores all the friendship, romance, battles and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive - this time in a part-vampire, part-human setting where the stakes are even higher and everyone's out for blood.--Goodreads

My Review
3 1/2 stars is my rating.
I had a hard time staying focused on this book. The major distraction was that I'm updating my blog (which I haven't kept up in a year) and just all the mystery going on in this story. The one major thing this book lacked was a love interest for the main character, Sydney. This was a little bit of a shocker since The Vampire Academy was so steamy. I'm not saying I hated the book but I guess I was expected something different or more romantically similar to VA. This may sound funny but I think there was an over dose of mystery. Through most of the book I was wondering, "Who's is behind all the cut throat murders? Why is Keith going over to Clarence's home so much? What exactly happen between Kieth and Sydney to create such stained relationship? What is gong on between Jill and Adrian? Lee??? Magical tattoos??? Sheesh, I'm breathless. It was all a little too much form me. I was, however, happy to see many of the same characters from The Vampire Academy book and I certainly loved that Adrian is in most of the pages. I also got to see Jill, Eddie, Rose, and Abe with a glimpse of Dimitri. Throughout the book there are tons of things going on or going wrong. But the thing that intrigued me the most and will make me grab the next book is the ending. You'll just have to read to know what happens. Sorry!

Overall I feel the biggest disappointment was that Sydney had no romantic interludes with anyone(sorry to sound like a horn-dog..hehe). It seemed everyone around her was either dating, pining, or recovering from some sort of romantic situation but there was nothing for her. I hope Richelle has some plans for her and Trey in the next book because I just don't see her being comfortable with any Moroi, even if it's Adrian. Well I don't want to give too much away but Sydney has a lot to over come and I hope to see Sydney's father reaction to the whole situation with Keith.

"They're waiting for you. Go on in ." Adrain leaned close to Keith's ear and spoke in a ominous voice. "If. You. Dare." He piked Keith's shoulder and gave a "Muhahahaha" kind of monster laugh.

Adrian- "Hey show some respect. They're real people with names. Carla and Krissy" He frowned. "Or was it Missy?"
