The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London marks a memorable occasion. For Rory, it's the start of a new life at a London boarding school. But for many, this will be remembered as the day a series of brutal murders broke out across the city, gruesome crimes mimicking the horrific Jack the Ripper events of more than a century ago.Soon "Rippermania" takes hold of modern-day London, and the police are left with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. Rory spotted the man police believe to be the prime suspect. But she is the only one who saw him. Even her roommate, who was walking with her at the time, didn't notice the mysterious man. So why can only Rory see him? And more urgently, why has Rory become his next target? In this edge-of-your-seat thriller, full of suspense, humor, and romance, Rory will learn the truth about the secret ghost police of London and discover her own shocking abilities.--Goodreads

 The Signing
Maureen Johnson was so cute and funny. She told us the idea that became The Name of the Star came from a trip she had to England. She when on a tour of London and she quickly found out that literally every building they toured was haunted by some ghost or spirit. She found that totally weird by also fascinating. So she combined that idea with the story of Jack the Ripper and came out the The Name of the Star. Ok so I'm totally paraphrasing and probably missing tons of information but that was the gist of it...lol
This book is darker than her other books so I asked her "How well did you sleep while writing this book?" She didn't feel that is was really scary but one of the wonderful ladies at Blue Willow said I should not eat while reading this book..lol.
You can find more info here->YA Saves.
So I had a great time at the signing and hope Maureen comes back for her next book. I would love to see her again.

  1. Nope. I am such a big chicken. I close my eyes and hold the person in front of me's tee through haunted houses...I don't think i could handle an actual tour or anything with actual spookiness :)

  2. No way. Did you know that the bravest thing I do is sleep in the dark?! To go hunting for ghosts, vampires and what not would drive me crazy.

  4. I have never been on any type of tour and I am not sure I could! I'm too chicken. Well, maybe if there was a huge group of people. And it was during the day. LOL

The only tour that I know of in my area is the Haunted Decatur tour and I've never been on it. Not sure if I'd want to go with a group, per se - and I'm probably too chicken to go exploring on my own. lol

  11. Nope. Never even thought to, though I love supernatural and ghost stories. It would probably be cool to go on one, but I don't actually know of any. I doubt there's one near where I live.

  12. I have never been! I will admit to loving the thought of going to them more than actually attending. If I were to ever attend I think I would go to the Eastern State Penitentiary!

  16. I have never been on a supernatural tour but would love to go to one in colonial Virginia, I hear their are a lot of haunted places their with supposedly...ghosts! Or I would like to go in a haunted ship. So scary!

  17. I've never been on a supernatural tour. I actually didn't really know anything about them, or that they existed. I like to think I can handle horror things and I'm not afraid of horror movies, but I don't think I'd ever actually go on a supernatural tour because I'd be deathly scared.

  19. I remember in eighth grade, our class went to this place called Lake St. George. It was a three day, two night trip, and it was really awesome. One of the nights we went around Lake St. George with the tour guide and he told us about the history of the place. He told us lots of ghost stories. One I remember was of a servant or maid who died and grew as part of a tree that stands right outside one of the dwellings at LSG. And it's creepy because the bark of the tree does look like a girls face. And apparently some people have seen it move.

Anyway, that's the only ghost tourr I've ever been on. I'd definitely like to take more though~

  20. I haven't been on any tours, but I'd love to go on a ghost tour. That sounds awesome. I wasn't even aware such things existed. I'll have to check into that. :)

  23. This summer we went on vacation and we went to Edinburgh, Scotland. While we there we went on a ghost tour in the vaults under the city. It was kinda cool. It was interesting to hear the history behind it.

  25. I have never actually been on one, and I probably wouldn't. I just spent Columbus Day weekend in Philly and they had a tour every night in October just after sunset and it took you to haunted places in the city. That's just a little creepy for me. I have an over-active imagination and I'm really paranoid, so the ghost stuff really freaks me out. O.o Thank you for the giveaway, I really want to read this book! :)

  26. We have a haunted ghost tour of my hometown every Halloween. It is creepy, but a lot of fun. I know that at one of the historical mansion, I saw a little girl standing on the ground of the mansion. Half way through the tour, I found a picture of the little girl in one of the bedrooms. She died in 1908. SUPER CREEPY!

  27. Never been, and I don't think I ever would Those kinds of things really scare me. I got scared enough when my friends and I decided to go pretend vampire hunting in a cemetery at night.

  32. I have been on a ghost tour! I've been to a few in Ohio around Halloween. They are so fun! Though they creep me out. Of all the supernatural things, the ones that freak me out most are ghosts. I love zombies and vampires and werewolves, but ghosts scare the living daylights out of me.

  37. I've never been on any kind of Supernatural tour but I've always wanted to go on a ghost tour in New Orleans, which is said to be one of the most haunted cities in America.

I have taken a tour of the Winchester Mystery House in California though, where that crazy woman made construction workers keep building to the mansion because she believed that it was the only way to keep the ghosts away (the ghosts were the spirits of people who had died from being shot by one of the guns her husband's company made). It wasn't really a haunted tour, but it was still pretty cool.

  38. I haven't been on a ghost tour before, but I'd really like to go on one maybe in a really historic city like new orleans or savannah or St Augustine. :)

  41. My husband and I went on a tour of the Winchester Mystery House that's outside of San Fran. It's said to be haunted, but I didn't get any weird feelings, I was more fascinated with the odd house itself

  42. I am too much of a scaredy cat to go on a ghost tour. I won't watch scary movies either! The closest I get to scary stuff is in books, and only if they are semi-scary. Full-blown scary will make me drop it unfinished!

  43. Hi! I just saw a comment that said she went on the Winchester mystery house tour, I honestly don't remember much from my childhood, but I think I remember going to that one, but I don't remember much about it. Honestly, I wouldn't go on another one, I think I'll leave that to the ghost hunters :P But I do love learning about haunted places, especially the ghost's past life and how they died. Those stories always interest me (:

  48. I haven't ever been on a ghost tour, but I live in New Orleans and I have been dying to go on one! My boyfriend is a chicken though, lol! I did go through a VooDoo Museum about a year ago... creepy, but really cool!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Nope I haven't. If there was an ordinary cemetery history tour that be good, but not a ghost tour. I did see some video of one for part of class when in Savannah, but that particular one came across either really stupid, or the people were very very gullible at best, so didn't seem very good. Plus with a class mate telling us how she and a friend made up a story and told their tours, then later they heard other tour givers passing the same story to their tours as 'ghost stories'. So got put off of those.

But a grim history tour, or maybe one down in New Orleans on halloween, that could be interesting. Or I'd love to go up to the Winchester House sometime.

  50. I've been on a haunted walk tour in Kingston, Ontario - one of the most haunted cities in Canada. It was sooo much fun - so interesting and creepy. It was right before Halloween so it was the special extended tour with extra stops and stories. There was one false story in the mix and we had to decide at the end which one was the false story, and I guessed it right so I won a giant Haunted Walk umbrella lol. I'd love to go on more haunted walk tours, especially when I visit England and Ireland!

  51. Sadly I have never been. But I would love to go to one of the Haunted Castle tours in Scotland. I have been fascinated by them since I was a kid. Man I am weird. Also would love to go on the Ghosts of Gettysburg tour. Again, something I have always been fascinated by. Thank you so much for the giveaway hon :)
