Young Adult Paranormal

Bethany and Xavier are even closer since battling Jake Thorn and his evil influence (in Halo) and Beth and her angel siblings must still protect Venus Cove from the Dark Forces.

When a party game – a séance – inadvertently releases Jake from the Underworld, he disguises himself and tricks Beth into taking a ride on his motorcycle. When the highway opens up and swallows them, Beth learns too late that she’s now a prisoner in hell. What happens to angels there? As her archangel brother, Gabriel, her sister Ivy, Xavier, and her best friend, Molly search for her, Beth must weigh Jake’s bargaining for her freedom: one night with him, and she will be released back to Earth.
Can Jake be trusted in this wager? And is he also using Beth to engineer the fall of the archangel Gabriel? Xavier has already lost one love – when Jake tricks him into thinking that Bethany is dead, his grief and anger result in a betrayal that will leave Bethany – and readers – wondering if he is so good after all.

It will be up to Beth to use everything she’s learned about her powers as an angel – and about love – to free herself and those she loves from the clutches of Hades.--Goodreads

Review: Chain Reaction by Simone Elkeles

Hardcover, 308 pages
Published August 16th 2011 by
Walker Books for Young Readers

Luis Fuentes has always been sheltered from the gang violence that nearly destroyed his brothers’ lives. But that didn’t stop him from taking risks—whether he’s scaling a mountain in the Rockies or dreaming of a future as an astronaut, Luis can’t stop looking for the next thrill.

Nikki Cruz lives her life by three rules—boys lie to get their way, don’t trust a boy who says “I love you,” and never date a boy from the south side of Fairfield. Her parents may be from Mexico, but as a doctor’s daughter, she has more in common with her north-side neighbors than the Latino Blood at her school. Then she meets Luis at Alex’s wedding, and suddenly, she’s tempted to break all her rules.

Getting Nikki to take a chance on a southsider is Luis’s biggest challenge, until he finds himself targeted by Chuy Soto, the new head of the Latino Blood. When Chuy reveals a disturbing secret about Luis’s family, the youngest Fuentes finds himself questioning everything he’s ever believed to be true. Will his feelings for Nikki be enough to stop Luis from entering a dark and violent world and permanently living on the edge?

My Review
I’ve been thinking of how to express just how much I LOVED this book. I mean it was just so AMAZING!! I had been waiting for this book for what  seemed like forever. The day it was released I was seriously considering calling into work sick just to get my hands on it right away.

First of all, I absolutely love, love, LOVE the Fuentes brothers. This has to be my favorite realistic fiction trilogy. The reason for my obsession is the seriously HOT guys in these books and their cocky attitude. And, the fact they are Hispanic just make it that much more enticing (for me anyway).

The wonderful thing about Simone’s writing is that one minute you are laughing out loud and the next moment crying yours eyes out because you fall in love with her characters. I also think its great that she gets the Hispanic family bond down realistically.  I know that other ethnicity are similar but it's fantastic that someone gets it right about the Hispanic culture.

My favorite character out of this book is Eleana. OMG!! She is hilarious. I could not stop laughing in her scene (take a look at the quotes below). I love that we get to see Alex, Brittany, Carlos, and Kiara again with some added characters. The main characters in this book are Luis Fuentes and Nikki Cruz. What I really liked about Luis is that even though his is so smart he still makes dumb decisions which makes him human and young. He uncovers the truth about his family history while Nikki has some major obstacles to over come.

I really enjoyed this book because of all the twist, turns, and surprised around every corner. I surly didn’t see most of them coming. If it wasn’t one thing it was another. I can’t say enough good things about this series and it’s fabulous author Simone. You just have to read the books to get what the obsession is all about.

Quote
Nikki- "I won't have sex with you," she blurts out.
Her words slam into my libido like a bucket of water on a flame full of testosterone. I think my dick just twitched in protest. "Like, ever?" I ask.

Elena- "He's a friend? Since when did you become friends with cops? Wait, maybe this is a sign!" She plasters a big smile on her face and turns to Reyes. "I need yo to arrest my cheating husband."

Carlos- "Holly s-h-i-t, Des. It's been a long time. How the h-e-l-l are ya?" He points to Paco. "Gotta watch the language around my nephew."

I'm Baaaaaaack!!

Oh..It feels so nice to get back to doing what I love. Reading, reviewing, and blogging. As you can tell from the date of my last post It's been a year (Yes! a year) since my last post. I'm so embarrassed but I couldn't help it and this is why... I started a full time position in September of last year and I literally couldn't keep up with full time work, reading, reviewing, blogging, and all the sports practices then game that my son was in. It was total ciaos. To keep my sanity I had to give up something. So, reviewing and blogging got the cut. I was extremely sad but also a relived. But, the one thing I didn't give up was reading. I've been reading nonstop (2-4 books a week)! Now that I have pretty much settled into my position at work with all the responsibilities and my son's crazy sports schedule I have now decided I'm coming back to have some more fun in the Blogosphere. I do have to say that Terry Kate at Romance in the Backseat encouraged me to do it. Thanks Terry!!

Now there were many things I left undone. Like my "Guess Who?" challenge and other giveaways. I'm so ashamed. But guess what? I still have everything the authors gave me to give away. Yeah!! So I will start the giveaway back up again ASAP and start some new ones. I have also been to some signings and will post those pictures up soon. Now I'm going to sign off to finish reading Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan. It's really good so far. Review coming soon!!
