My POV: What a Boy Needs by Nyrae Dawn

ebook, 124 pages
Published June 2012
A companion novel to WHAT A BOY WANTS.

Jaden Sinclair knows he'll never amount to anything...so why would he deserve a girl like Priscilla Mendoza?

Since last summer, things have been screwed up between Jaden and Pris. He knows it's his fault, but that doesn’t stop him from wanting to go a few rounds with her new boyfriend. He also knows he’s the loser his dad calls him, but it doesn’t stop him from wanting her.

After getting a huge bomb dropped on him, Jaden lashes out and lands himself in jail. Everything in his chaotic life is turned upside down and to make it worse, his mom kicks him out in order to side with his dad. Yeah, he’s totally a prize for a girl like Pris.

Sebastian, Aspen, and Pris are all going places in their lives...and he knows he can't keep tagging along for the ride.

The group has one last chance for The Epic Adventure they've been looking for: a road trip to New York, where Jaden's friends will be going to college. Unfortunately, the more time Jaden hangs around Pris, the harder it is to keep the carefully constructed walls between them so she doesn't find out what a train wreck he really is--Goodreads

My POV

This book is a little darker than its companion novel What A Boy Wants but just as good or maybe a little better. This book takes on a more serious tone because it involves abuse and neglect. And as you can imagine this kind of treatment is extremely hard to cope with and of course it affects a person’s love life and how they perceive themself.
Jaden (Jay), Priscilla (Pris), Sebastian (Bastian), and Aspen (Woodstock) are best of friends, have been for years .There is more behind Jaden's reluctance to be with Priscilla then she knows but it's only because he doesn't let anyone in not even her; especially not her. The least she knows about his feelings for her the better because he’s not worth it. At least that’s how he feels.
Priscilla has home problems of her own and the fact that she is with the boy of her dreams all the time makes her life even harder. The reasoning is he breaks her heart every time he hooks up with someone other than her which makes her hate him more and more each time.  So she’s had enough and has decided to move on, only it never works out because none of them are Jay.
Can a road trip to their future home in New York be exactly what these two needs to iron out some of the wrinkles in their relationship issues? Maybe (I’m not giving away anything), but I will say that the trip was very exciting, passionate, and absolutely intense. Guys don’t miss out on this book. It was frickin’ amazing!

Quote
"Please, I could take yo uwith my eyes closed--shit, ouch," sebastian limps after accidently stepping on Aspen's foot.
"Hello? You stepped on me. I should be the one saying ouch!"...
"Sorry baby," Bastian leans forward. "Gimme a kiss. My lips have healing power."

"Holy Shit!"
Holy shit? I push out the door and close it behind me. I have no idea how he knows, but he does.
"Holy shit!" He says again.
"Dude, shut up!"
He shakes his head. "I'm shutting, I'm shutting, it's just...Holy shit! I'm trippin' out here. You have a hickey on your neck!"
