Halloween Character Booktacular with Katie McGarry + GIVEAWAY!

Books
Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits, #1)
Scene
Noah’s POV
“What should we go as?” Echo leans against the tool bench in her father’s garage as my best friend, Isaiah, pops open the hood of Echo’s ’65 Vette. It doesn’t matter that Echo has only driven the car a handful of times, Isaiah still changes the oil of the beast, like clockwork, every three months.
“What do you mean by we?” I drop a hip into the door of the car and let the wariness leak into my voice. To make Echo happy, I agreed to go to her friend’s Halloween party, but I never agreed to dress up.
Echo tosses her red, curly hair over her shoulder and narrows her eyes, an assurance of an impending “long discussion” should I continue to stonewall her. Which I will. She’s not the only one who’s stubborn.
“It’s a couples-themed party. Our costumes have to complement each other.”
On cue, my non-blood sister, Beth, chimes in from the other side of Echo. Her feet dangle as she sits on the tool bench. “As in she’s Little Bo Peep and you’re the sheep.”
Isaiah chuckles. “Nice one.”
Beth flashes a smile at him. “I thought so. I’m thinking cotton balls all over him. I’ll even volunteer to be the one to paste them on.”
“Come on, Noah.” Isaiah lifts his head from looking at the engine. “You’d make a great sheep.”
I suggest something physically impossible and Isaiah chuckles again as he returns his attention to the car.
“No sheep,” says Echo, but the far off look in her eye has me fidgeting on the inside. “But we can come up with something.”
“No costume,” I say.
“He’d make a great Gladiator,” says Echo and I hate how she glances at Beth. I get nervous when the two of them get along. It spells trouble for me.
Beth squishes her lips to the right and shakes her head. “I’m stuck on cotton balls. If you’re going to make him do this, I should get a laugh out of it.”
“No. Costume.” It’s like I’m not even speaking.
“Give up,” mumbles Isaiah. “You’re outnumbered.”
“I like bad odds,” I say back.
Echo pushes off the tool bench and glides over to me. Glides. She always has this easy sway about her that hypnotizes me. Her fingers whisper against my bicep and I silently curse myself because of the nagging feeling that I’m about to lose.
“How about we go as a fifties couple?” she whispers as her fingers slowly trace up my arm to the back of my neck, leaving a pleasant tickling sensation where her nails had trailed against my skin. “I’ll dress up in one of those poodle skirts and you can remain in your normal bad boy glory with your leather jacket and jeans.”
Unable to stop myself, I wrap my arms around her waist and drag her closer to me. “If people ask, I’m telling them that I’m not in costume.”
My heart squeezes when her green eyes become sparklers and her lips twist up into a smile. Does she have any idea how much she owns me? Probably, but I don’t care. I love this girl.
“Deal,” Echo replies and she silences my response when she presses her lips to mine.
