First of all I have to say that I’m extremely impressed by Elizabeth Richards and Black City. This epic novel has taken the vampire genre into a new direction. I wouldn’t doubt if this story will soon be featured as a TV series or adapted for the big screen. It’s that good.
Black City is a daring sexy read which take the expression of “soul mate” to a whole new level. A beautiful forbidden and hot romance sparks between two unlikely and very different teens. One is a vampire and one a daughter of an Emissary, each on different sides of a war. This illegal union, punishable by death is full of tension, danger, and heart pounding moments.
What I love best about the book it that even though these vampires are animalistic by nature they still have beautiful traditions, legend, folklore and myths. Reading these scenes made me very sentimental and humanized the vampires making us realize that they are not so different from humans (us). What I found really fascinating are the different spices of vampire. They kind of reminded me of dragons in that they have similar features. Now don’t let me confuse you. None of them breathe fire but they do have different colored skin, eyes, and some even have wings.
This paranormal dystopian involves everything a great epic story needs, segregation, genocide, politics, and war. But what sets this book apart from others is the heart. You can’t fool the heart and who you love. Black City is a fascinating and wondrous read. If you are looking for something different in the vampire genre, definitely pick this one up. You’ll love it!
