I was pulled into this story right away and by the end I was totally addicted! This compelling story about a young strong woman trying to protect what is left of her family and dealing with her tragic past is one of a kind. It may seem to be your average “face your demons” kind of stories but let me just warn you. It is not!
After an unsuccessful short time with family members Kacey is left with the enormous responsibly of taking care of her teenage younger sister and providing a safe environment for the both of them. Moving states away she has found a somewhat affordable place where she hopes they can forget their past and build a normal life. Things seem to be going well for Kacey as they settle in and finds a well-paying job. Then life seems to get much better once she meets her gorgeous neighbor Trent. Only she can’t afford this sort of distraction, emotionally or financially.
There was a time while reading that I could almost feel what was going on but then I thought to myself “No, there’s no way.” Then the “Holy S**t” moment came and I was speechless, shocked, horrified, sad and sooooo worried. It was so tough to accept the situation they find themselves in and the last couple of chapters where difficult to read.
This was one of the most surprising books I’ve read this year. I’m definitely picking up the next one. I have to see where these characters will lead us next. I have to say I’m a little scare to see where their journey may lead since K.A. seems to be bold with where she takes her characters and the story. It’s both exciting and terrifying. Crossing my fingers!!
"Our past isn't who we are. I'm me and you're you and that's who we need to be."
"You sure? You'll regret it. I'm quite entertaining."..
"Not as much as I'll regret leaving my present company. I think she could entertain me for a lifetime."
"I want to make you smile. For real. Always. We're going to go for dinners, and see movies, and walk on the beach. We'll go hang gliding, or bungee jumping, or whatever you want to do. Whatever make you smile and laugh more." His fingers toy with my bottom lip. "Let me make you smile."

Born in small-town Ontario, Kathleen published her first book at the age of six with the help of her elementary school librarian and a box of crayons. She is a voracious reader and the farthest thing from a genre-snob, loving everything from High Fantasy to Chick Lit. Kathleen currently resides in a quaint small town outside of Toronto with her husband, two beautiful girls, and an exhausting brood of four-legged creatures.
