Jamie McGuire Interview & Giveaway!

Beautiful #2
Author: Jamie McGuire
New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 2nd 2013

Published by: Atria Books
Paperback, 448 pages
Available: Amazon ~ Barnes & Noble

Finally, the highly anticipated follow-up to the New York Times bestseller Beautiful Disaster. Can you love someone too much?
Travis Maddox learned two things from his mother before she died: Love hard. Fight harder.

In Walking Disaster, the life of Travis is full of fast women, underground gambling, and violence. But just when he thinks he is invincible, Abby Abernathy brings him to his knees.

Every story has two sides. In Beautiful Disaster, Abby had her say. Now it’s time to see the story through Travis’s eyes.--Goodreads

Beautiful #1

1.            What do the butterflies on your covers represent? The butterflies represent the beautiful in Beautiful Disaster. The cover artist was very literal in his interpretation of the title. We wanted to carry over the theme for the cover of Walking Disaster, and the butterfly tattoo/butterfly wings were a striking image.

2.            Was it the demand of your fans that lead you to write Walking Disaster or was it something you planned to do all along? After I announced that I was happy with how Beautiful Disaster ended and I would not be writing a sequel, one fan requested the story from Travis’s perspective. I thought that would be fun and started right away!

3.            How difficult was it to write Walking Disaster and what was the process like? The most difficult thing about writing Walking Disaster was keeping everything straight! What happened after which date with Parker, keeping their fights and conversations in order. I really enjoyed getting inside the mind of Travis Maddox. It was very liberating.

4.            There has been a lot of debate on Travis’s intensity as a character. Some have labeled him as “abusive.” Personally I don’t see him as abusive just extremely passionate and intense. Can you share some thoughts on that subject? I don’t believe Travis is abusive. He has a lot to learn about love and controlling his anger, but as you read in both books, hitting a woman has never occurred to him. He makes a lot of mistakes the first time he falls in love with someone, who also happens to be the only person he ever wants to love. Making mistakes is certainly not an isolated occurrence, and for me personally, it’s important to tell stories of emotionally damaged people. Not everyone loves in a healthy way. Despite his emotional baggage and mistakes, Travis continually tries to be better, and I think that’s where his salvation lies. No one gets it right the first time, or every time.

5.            Why did you choose Pigeon as a nick name? Where did it come from? I was watching Lady and the Tramp with my kids, and the Tramp reminded me of Travis (for obvious reasons), and I loved the nickname he gave Lady.

6.            Were there any deleted scenes that you wish made it into the book and can you share a snippet of them with us? Not in Beautiful Disaster. Everything I wrote made it into the final version.

7.            You mentioned that there will be more books in the Beautiful series. Can you give us a quick rundown on each book planned, the character it will feature and estimated release dates? I will begin Trent’s book (untitled) in January 2014. Thomas’s book will be written after that, and then a book for each of the twins, Taylor and Tyler.  I won’t have a release date until I turn them in.

8.            Can you give us an update on the Beautiful Disaster Movie? The screenplay is being written!

9.            I’ve heard you are working on new writing projects. Can you tell us about them? Red Hill is the novel I’m working on now. It’s a story I’ve wanted to tell for two years, but put on the back burner to finish book 3 of the Providence series, EDEN, and Walking Disaster. Currently the description is a follows:

Scarlet’s daughters were an hour away with their father the day the world ended.

Nate, a newly-single father, is trying to find a safe place for him and his daughter to ride out the horror around them.

Miranda, a young woman in college, struggles through the congested highway with her sister and their boyfriends to reach her father’s secluded ranch.

Red Hill is an intense apocalyptic drama, told from each character’s POV as they fight to survive and ultimately find their way to each other.

Jamie McGuire was born in Tulsa, OK. She was raised by her mother Brenda in Blackwell, OK, where she graduated high school in 1997. Jamie attended the Northern Oklahoma College, the University of Central Oklahoma, and Autry Technology Center where she graduated with a degree in Radiography.

Jamie now lives in Enid, OK with her three children and husband Jeff, who is a real, live cowboy. They share their 30 acres with four horses, four dogs, and Rooster the cat.

Books published by Jamie include the Providence trilogy, and The New York Times best seller Beautiful Disaster, a contemporary romance. When she’s not writing, Jamie spends her days letting her four dogs in and out.
